quiet time and other lovely things
hey guys
so update on life: I got a job! it's only a temp job, working in the print shop of the local college campus, but it will be good to make some cash and will help me get a loan so I can get a car! then, the sky's the limit :).
here's my thoughts on quiet times... I saw some posts on it, and I know it's something that's troubled me too. I learned in Mexico, and practiced ever since (especially in the DR) that what ever I needed to get with God I would get before I ever left my bed, or sleeping bag, because that's the first (and last) moment of my day that I had total control over. In college too, I would spend time in the word at night, while I was getting ready to fall asleep.
we're not always going to have long or deep or life changing introspective quiet times, and that's ok. what it is essential that we not loose is a time to connect with the father - the best times are when you are able to just be you. my favorite quiet times are sometimes 15 minutes. I like practicing worship songs, talking out loud to God in empty rooms (my favorite was my college campus chapel), sleeping in empty churches. I've had friends who's favorite quiet times are spent jogging.
the most important part of a quiet time is not the bible or your journal, but your ability to connect to god and be recharged. (but if you need the word to do that, then yes, defend your time in the word!) I like spending small moments with God through out the day - taking the time to ask for small things, or thanking him for little things that make me laugh.
anyway. remember that you have to put the big rocks into your life first - the biggest things have to go in first, other wise you'll put in all of the little things and they will crowd out the big things. making time to pray with a friend is always great, cause it keeps you accountable.
good luck girls - I'll be praying for you
